It's amazing what technology can do for some games. In a nature photography game, great graphics and believable animal behavior is certainly important. Afrika may not be for everyone, but for those looking for a unique and serene experience there may be nothing better.
The goal of Afrika is pretty simple. Take specific pictures of specific animals throughout Africa. You are given goals for specific shots and completing them earns you money that you can use to upgrade your equipment. The photos can be taken from a jeep, on foot, or even from a hot air balloon, and can range from taking pictures of an elephant to a fly.

The world of Afrika is divided into zones based on the habitats of the animals. Certain animals can only be found in certain zones, and you'll be challenged to get some very specific and often difficult shots at times (such as night shots of elephants, or shots in a specific location.) If you get too close to a dangerous animal you'll be returned to your base camp, so you have to be careful. By the way, the hippo is the most dangerous.
The game comes equipped with dozens of purchaseable Sony cameras that will keep the collection buffs going as they strive for the best. Numerous other unlockables are present as well as real footage and pictures of the animals and detailed information about them courtesy of National Geographic.

Afrika was one of Sony's first games shown to demonstrate the power of the Playstation 3 way back in E3 2006. While the graphics are not the most amazing on the system anymore, it's still a beautiful game. The animal models especially are impressive, and their behaviors are believable. National Geographic apparently had a part in that, insuring that all the fauna acted appropriately for the game.
If you have an interest in nature or in wildlife photography Afrika is definitely for you. If you just want something different and unique then Afrika is still something you should check out. Whatever the case, you can check out this interesting and enjoyable experience this August.
